On the first pilgrimage Laurie Parrish organized for her church, the pilgrims started calling her “Trip Mama” —and the name stuck. Trip Mama is an accurate and light-hearted way to describe the services that Laurie provides, helping churches and other groups prepare for a life-changing journey to the Holy Land.

For pilgrimages offered through “Holy Land In Depth,” Laurie’s work encompasses the following.

Itinerary creation is the first step. Laurie engages with our guides and travel agents in the Holy Land to create an exciting and complete plan to encompass your spiritual and historical journey.

Pilgrim preparation includes meetings either in person or online. Laurie gathers all of your necessary medical and emergency information, and guides everyone through passport and visa requirements as needed. She sends each participant a packing list, reading recommendations, and numerous tips about the upcoming journey. Trip Mama sets up your timeline, describing what needs to be done when leading up to the departure. Throughout the preparation, Laurie answers the myriad questions that always arise from travelers in advance of a pilgrimage. She consults with members of the professional support team to ensure that the whole journey will go as smoothly as possible.

Accompanying the pilgrimage as Group Leader is an important part of the Trip Mama’s role. On a daily basis, Laurie serves as a liaison between the pilgrims and their various guides, mentors, bus drivers, and program hosts. She shepherds and cares for the group and each of its individual members as the journey goes along.

Follow up meetings and evaluations are important ways for the pilgrims to process and appreciate the spiritual impact of their experiences. Laurie’s expertise and insights continue to support and guide the evaluation process after the pilgrims return home.

• Create an itinerary through introductory planning sessions with your church group leaders, tailoring the pilgrimage to your church’s specific needs and interests.

• Form a pilgrim group by helping you publish and advertise the opportunity among members of your congregation and broader community.

• Prepare the pilgrims through gatherings with the entire group of pilgrims through meetings, email instructions, and travel tips.

• Accompany your group for the entire journey as an experienced Holy Land pilgrim companion, ensuring the best possible results.

• Follow up after the pilgrimage through evaluations and other contact, is desired.
