Luke 17:5-10 - Increase our Faith!!

Luke 17:5-10

5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”

6 The Lord replied, “If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you. 7 “Who among you would say to your slave who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here at once and take your place at the table’? 8 Would you not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, put on your apron and serve me while I eat and drink; later you may eat and drink’? 9 Do you thank the slave for doing what was commanded?

10 So you also, when you have done all that you were ordered to do, say, ‘We are worthless slaves; we have done only what we ought to have done!’”

Increase our faith!

Considering the miracles and signs that Jesus was performing, and how He was insisting on the necessity of personal faith to have miracles, the disciples thought it right to ask Him to increase their faith. Jesus’ response is very direct and inspiring!

Faith can't be measured by quantity. A little is already a lot. Faith has never been an intellectual theory, but rather trust and obedience to God.

Trust God and fulfill His will with whatever we plan to do. When His will is done on earth, we are already enjoying an eternal presence, His presence!

When we try our best to discern His will and translate it into deeds, our faith is true and strong enough. Faith produces obedience to God when His will is done with love and humility.

In small things and great ones, love and humility are the foundations of faith where God is glorified and pleased.

This Gospel invites us to think more about our obedience to God and our humility when we respect His will in our life. May the Lord increase our faith to listen to His word, understand it, and live according to its Spirit!
