Come to me all who are weary

Matthew 11:28-29, "Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

Jesus is present and standing among us today, saying to ALL of us: "Come to me ALL who are weary and carry heavy burdens!"

Isn't our real situation today burdensome for all? He, who promised to remain with us until the end of the world invites us to come to Him, to listen to Him--not just read about Him or hear others talk of Him. He invites us to a personal, direct and friendly encounter.

Christ cares for His faithful. He knows that we carry heavy burdens of various kinds and need rest. We are invited to respond freely and willingly to His invitation, to become His disciples today. Becoming one of His disciples means that we will receive the gift of love and trust.

In 1 John 4:16, St. John tells us that "God is Love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him." That Love, which we know through St. Paul's letter to the Philippians in chapter 2:6-8, "Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness....becoming obedient to death--even death on a cross!”

Humility and service are the best evidence of true love. This is what Jesus would like to see us living and doing, facing all kinds of burdens with God's love and trust as we share with or care for others. Do it as Jesus does it, with humility and kindness!

Tell Jesus your troubles. Help others keep faith and hope in times of distress, keeping Jesus as our Teacher and Model.

Would you like to respond to His invitation and give Him time in your daily schedule? Accept His invitation. Come, see and taste how delicious it is to be with Him. Receive peaceful and hopeful rest in your mind and heart!
